TRAVELLING WITH YOUR LAPTOP
Laptops these days are used both as a source of entertainment as well as for work related purposes. Being wireless and light in weight, they are highly portable and can be carried in a bag. Carrying your laptop over short distances and for a few days only is not a big problem. But traveling to the other side of the world with it is a completely different situation altogether. The long flight, plus differences in foreign power outlets and supplies, lack of or poor quality Wi-Fi services and the trouble of carrying everything wherever you go can seriously limit mobile computing.
There is no denying the benefits of taking a laptop wherever you go. It allows constant connectivity as well as watching movies and playing games. But is it worth it? Do the benefits overcome the hassle?
The answer in most cases would be "No". In this modern and technologically advanced age, almost every place in the world offers internet access through different means. There are internet cafes in every city, town and street. Their services can be used for a minor fee to check emails and download and upload files such as pictures.
Another reason not to carry the laptop on your travels could be the lack of security. You may have to leave your laptop in places where there is a high chance that it may be stolen.
Bringing the laptop also includes bringing the cords, extra batteries, headphones, etc. Al this adds to the baggage and increases the difficulty in carrying it. And there is no predicting the weather with a hundred percent accuracy. Being caught in a rainstorm can damage the laptop beyond repair.
Power Issues
Every country has different power outlet issues. Sometimes voltage converters or global plug adapters are required to prevent damage to electronic items. The adapters are usually big and heavy, and therefore quite bothersome to carry.
The next time you take a trip, think over whether carrying your laptop is necessary. If you can manage without it, it's better not facing the hassle and risk of taking it with you.
